Many auto parts stores have the ability to test your cap and most will do it for free. The addtional pressure causes the boiling point of your coolant to increase about 4-6 degrees per pound of pressure. The cap causes your radiator to run at about 15 lbs pressure. If your radiator cap ($10-$20) is original it may be wearing out. You have to push down fairly hard and turn to remove the cap. If the tech didn't wait for the engine to warm up to top off your coolant then it could be low. It wouldn't hurt if you checked your coolant level, not just the tank but when the engine is cold open the radiator cap and make sure the radiator is full. If you have the Oldmobile three line temp gauge \ | / then if it's less than 1/4 of the distance between the second and third line that's with in acceptable limits. When you had your engine worked on was it because the engine was missing (not firing) on one or more cylinders, if so the additional cylinders firing will cause your engine to run hotter. Thermostats can range for from around 180-200 degrees this could be what your noticing. It's possible that they put a slightly higher temperature thermostat in when they worked on the engine.
